Polymer Surface Coatings

Polymer Surface Coatings (PSC) developed by MarMac® protect concrete & cementitious structures, wood, and metal by forming a continuous layer that isolates the underlying material from its environment and damaging agents. These coatings work through multiple mechanisms depending on their composition and application. PSCs primary function is to create a physical barrier that prevents moisture, oxygen, chemicals, and contaminants from reaching the surface, which is especially critical for preventing corrosion in concrete or metal. The adhesion between the PSC and substrate is crucial—polymers bond through mechanical interlocking on the structure’s surface. The flexibility and toughness of our polymer coatings also matter, as they must accommodate thermal expansion and contraction of the substrate without cracking or delaminating. By carefully selecting polymer chemistry, film thickness, and application method, our coatings have been engineered to provide long-lasting protection against a range of environmental challenges.

We have several polymer coatings in the development and testing phases, so check back soon or reach out if you’re facing a problem you think a surface coating could solve.
